Neonatology is a subspeciality of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill or premature newborn infant. It isa hospital based speciality and is usually practiced in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The principal patients of neonatologist are newborn infants who are ill or requiring special medical care due to prematurity, low birth weight, intrauterine growth retardation, congenital malformations (birth defects), sepsis or birth ashyxias. Our Neonatal ICU is equipped with state of art equipments meeting all national/international standards. The unit is covered round the clock by trained team of doctors, nurses and paramedicals. Our NICU also won the best NICU by ACHSI (Australian Council for Health and Safety International) At KIMS we have a planned approach to pregnancies with added risk: Obstetrician, Neonatologist and Recovery Specialist involved in planning and optimal care even before birth. KIMS also does follow up services for special assessment of brain development and sense organs of babies born with added risk. KIMS also does counseling session for parents to be by Obstetrician and Pediatrician before birth at period intervals in pregnancy to allay anxiety and prepare better for the new experience. All deliveries attended by pediatrician to give the baby a best start. Some features include screening for congenital hypothyroidism, for jaundice before discharge from the hospital. KIMS also has provision for all optional vaccines available. Growth and development of the infant is also monitored.
