| This postgraduate programme is offered by the Indira Gandhi National Open University in 9 centers in India and KIMS is the only institution recognized to impart training in Kerala. | ELIGIBILITY |
| Academic: |
| Candidates seeking admission should satisfy the following requirements. |
 |
Candidates who passed PLUS TWO examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education of Kerala or equivalent examination recognized by University Of Kerala with an aggregate of 50 % marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology. |
| |
 |
Candidates who passed their qualifying examination from outside the State of Kerala should produce the certificate of recognition and equivalency of qualifying examination from University of Kerala. |
| |
 |
It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that the qualifying examination he/she has passed is recognized by the University Of Kerala as eligible qualification for admission for BSc. Nursing course. |
| |
 |
The candidate should produce migration certificate if it is needed. |

| Age: |

Candidate should complete 17 years of age on 31st December 2006. |

No relaxation of the minimum age will be allowed. |

| How to Apply |
 |
The candidate who seeks admission at KIMS College of Nursing should submit an application in the prescribed form available from the office, KIMS College of Nursing, Thiruvananthapuram, on payment of Rs. 500/- (Rupees five hundred only) in person or on payment of Rs.550 /- (Rupees five hundred and fifty only) by post. |

The candidate who seeks admission under the management quota in College of Nursing should appear for the entrance examination conducted by Government of Kerala. |

 |
The candidate admitted under NRI quota need not attend the entrance examination by Government of Kerala. |
| |
 |
The application should reach the Principal, College of Nursing, KIMS, before the stipulated date. The date will be published in due course. |
| |
 |
Incomplete application without requisite documents will not be entertained. |

| ADMISSION |
| 1. |
The candidate applying in management quota should appear for the Entrance examination conducted by Government of Kerala before interview and should be qualified by the above exam. |

| 2. |
The candidate should produce the certificates in original during interview (Annexure I). |
| 3. |
The list of selected candidates will be displayed on notice board of KIMS College of Nursing and also the selected candidates will be informed by post. |

| 4. |
The decision of the management will be final. |
| 5. |
The candidate admitted under NRI quota should pay the fees from the NRI account of relatives (father, mother, brother, sister cousin, uncle & aunt). |

| 6. |
If any candidate discontinues the course, after the closing of admissions as notified by the Controller of Examination, the candidate has to pay the compensation for the remaining course and which will be decided by the management as per agreement. |

| 7. |
At the time of joining, each student must undergo a physical examination by a clinical doctor of KIMS, and if found unfit, admission will be denied. |
| |
| 8. |
The candidate should sign a bond stating the rules and regulations and mandatory requirement on the time of admission. |
| |
|
| STIPULATION |
| All selected candidates should undergo internship for a period of one year, as per curriculum from the date of successful completion of the Course. Violation of this condition shall entail payment of compensation as per the signed contract/Bond by the candidate concerned. |

| Nursing Practice: |

The entire KIMS Hospital complex with its various specialties is made available to the students for clinical experience. |

The Institution is also affiliated to various reputed hospitals for the clinical experience (The Regional Cancer Center, Thiruvananthapuram, The Women and Children Hospital, Thycaud, The Mental Health Center, Peroorkada, General Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram ). |

A well planned community development and extension center is provided for community health nursing experience. |
| |
|
| Residence: |
| All selected candidates except male candidates are requested to reside in the hostel provided for their stay. However, principal has the discretion to decide about the students stay in the hostel or be made as day scholar. |
| Library: |
| A well equipped library with more than 1500 books including internet facilities is functioning under KIMS , College of Nursing including internet facilities. Books are to be used with extreme care. |
| Laboratories: |
| Well-equipped laboratory facilities, exclusively for College of Nursing are available in addition to the modern lab facilities of KIMS Hospital. |
| Medical Checkup: |
| A Health record is maintained in the College to monitor the physical and mental health of the students. Students should produce the health record whenever they consult doctors at KIMS. |

| PURPOSE |
| The purpose of the General Nursing Programme is to prepare general nurse who will function as member of the health team beginning with competencies for first level Position in both hospital and community. The programme is geared to the health needs of the country, the community and the individual and it will serve as a basis for advanced study and specialization in Nursing it will assist nurses in their personal and professional development so that they make their maximum contribution to the society as individual citizens and nurse. |

| To achieve the objectives, Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences started General Nursing and Midwifery Course in January 2004 with an intake of 20 students. KIMS School of Nursing is recognized by the Kerala Nurses and Midwifery Council and Indian Nursing Council. Presently KIMS School of Nursing is functioning with 86 students. |
| FACILITIES FOR TRAINING OF STUDENTS: |
| Clinical: In KIMS, the students receive additional training from Doctors and other experts in all fields of medical care. They are trained to use the most modern ventilators, defibrillators and other equipment in various branches of health care system. |
| Faculty: The Faculty of KIMS School of Nursing is well qualified and experienced as per the norms of council. Faculties give guidance and supervision to students in various clinical areas. |
| Support: A library with a wide range of books and journals for reference and reading is available in the Nursing School premises. KIMS School of Nursing is furnished with modern laboratories like Nursing lab, Nutrition lab, Anatomy lab, Community lab and computer lab with internet connection. The students and staff receive training for basic life support every year. |
| Hostel: KIMS School of Nursing provides well arranged separate hostel for male and female students with adequate facilities for co-curricular activities as well. They are under the care of a resident tutor and warden. |

| Co-curricular activities: |
| A student Nurses Association unit functions for the up-gradation of curricular and extracurricular activities. They actively participate in sports, games and arts competitions conducted by SNA in Zonal and state level. During the course, students also receive guidance to plan their carrier. |
| Achievements: For the 1st batch of students, we have achieved 100% success in the qualifying exams conducted by Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council, and of our students also secured the 1st rank in Kerala. All students have completed their course and have joined as staff nurses in KIMS Hospital. |
