Every family looks forward to a healthy pregnancy and to birth of a healthy new born. Having a high – risk pregnancy means that a woman has a greater chance of complications because of conditions in her pregnancy, her own medical status or lifestyle, or due to external factors.
When a pregnancy may be treated as high risk:-
- You are over 35 years old
- You are under 17 years
- You are carrying more than one baby
- You have a chronic health condition such as diabetes, heart problems, or a blood-clotting disorder
- You have a history of gynecological problems such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), endometriosis, or large symptomatic fibroids;
- You have a history of pregnancy loss
- You have an STD, including HIV
- You are pregnant as a result of assisted reproductive technologies
- You have had two or more second-trimester abortions
- You have a child with a genetic disorder or are a carrier for a genetic disorder
The Department offers expert care to expectant mothers who are at risk of complications during pregnancy. Our specialists ensure that our patients and their babies are as healthy and comfortable as possible during all stage of their pregnancy and delivery.
The unit handles complicated pregnancies with a team work of Perinatologist, Senior Obstetricians, Neonatologist with sub speciality support.
The department offers:
- Pre pregnancy counseling
- First trimister screening
- Screening for chromosomel anomalies
- Targeted anomaly scans
- Screening Fetal Echo
- Monitoring IUGR babies with fetal doppler
- Monitoring of MCDA twins
- Invasive fetal diagnosis like amniocentesis, CVS, cordocentesis and amnioreduction
The obstetrics department led by senior faculty ably support the Perinatology unit. The department offers care for expectant mothers with quality obstetric care and fetal monitoring. The Birthing Suite facility at KIMS facilitates a soothing atmosphere for the laboring women.
The department of Neonatology at KIMS offers state of the art facilities for management of extremely small (preterm) and sick newborns. Equipped with one of the most modern Neonatal ICU, the unit is covered round the clock by trained doctors, nurses and paramedicals.
